Heart of a Fisherman 2013

Heart of a Fisherman event consist in a fishing event with some welcome changes to the system: The option to buy baits for gold and the option to buy baits with currency, without direct atlas ore conversion, which helps to avoid increase of demand in atlas ore.

This event is being host at International Atlantica Online Servers from March 14th, 2013 until April 4th, 2013.

The most important change is the option to buy the silver baits for 5.000.000 gold, which makes the event a gold sink to some extent, and makes the event fair for everyone. By "for everyone" I mean for players who do not spend money in the "Item Mall" and for the ones who do.

I'm myself a non spender, but, for the sake of a good and complete analysis of the event, I bought an USD 10 pack of golden baits, which contains 250 baits and, if I'm not mistaken, gives the player less baits than the usual 1 atlas ore to craft 3 baits, which would have resulted in 300 baits. If it was 1 atlas for 2 baits in the past, then the package would give better amount compared to the craft conversion.

Also, there is a small bug you must be aware: The time to receive the prize and the time-fishing bar don't match in length. Most of the time you will see the time-fishing bar being consumed, going empty for some time and the character still fishing. If you don't stop the animation, it will eventually give you the reward and start a new fishing cycle. I noticed it soon enough, and was able to fish all my 500 baits (250 silver and 250 gold) without need to restart it manually.

Now, to the cold facts:

1. The fishing event is a no-go AFK event. You fight nothing, and there is nothing to do outside "Hainan Island". No quests, no special gifts, just AFK all the time.

2. Even if you are extremely lucky and get one rare item from fancy gold bait you will mostly make your money back, with a very small profit, for every 250 baits. If you need more than 250 baits to get a rare item, then you might end in a big loss.

3. The items you can trade the fisherman's hearts for are overpriced by far. The worst item is "Scroll of Bewitching (Common)" with an average loss of 98.6% with gold baits and 99,8% with silver baits. The "best" item is "Mephisto's Cross" with an average loss of only 54,9% with gold baits and 94,3% with silver baits. And that is today, 2nd day of event, with the time going, it might get only worse.

You can check all the math in this spreadsheet.
